Why bespoke kid beds beat off-the-shelf in Dubai
Off-the-shelf beds assume a square room, a flat ceiling and a free 2m wall. Dubai apartments rarely give you all three.
JVC and Palm Jumeirah throw up the same problems on almost every job. MEP bulkheads drop the ceiling across part of the room. Split AC units sit low on one wall. Window walls leave an awkward return that no standard frame fits. A 90x190cm bed pushed against the wrong wall blocks the curtain track or sits directly in the AC draft.
Bespoke joinery solves this because the storage goes where the room is odd. Drawers sit under the mattress, shelving squares off a bulkhead, a desk runs along the window return. You also get a frame built to your child's mattress and your actual wall, not to a showroom floor. We are a kids joinery Dubai specialist and we build nothing else.

Bed types we build
Six configurations cover almost every Dubai kids room. Each one takes a standard 90x190cm mattress unless you ask for a 120cm or 140cm double.
Platform bed
The lowest profile option, with the mattress deck 25 to 30cm off the floor. A four-year-old climbs in unaided and the whole base becomes drawer storage. AED 3,500 to 6,500 for a 90x190cm platform with two soft-close drawers.
Mid-sleeper
The deck sits around 90cm, which frees the floor underneath for a desk or play mat without the height of a full loft. A 15 degree ladder angle and a full length guard rail make it workable from about age five. AED 5,500 to 8,000.
Bunk bed
Two 90x190cm decks stacked, with the lower deck normally 30cm off the floor. Fixed ladders age better than removable ones in family homes. AED 6,500 to 9,500 depending on storage and rail length.
Loft bed
Deck height runs 140 to 160cm, which turns the space below into a full study or wardrobe run. Lofts are the most demanding build in the range and get a deeper treatment in our kids joinery guides hub. AED 7,500 to 14,000.
Trundle bed
A second pull-out mattress on castors that stores inside the base. Add AED 1,800 to 3,200 to any platform or mid-sleeper.
Bed with desk
A straight or L-shaped desk fixed to a mid-sleeper or loft, sized to the wall run. Check the door swing and the chair pull-out space before you lock the layout.
What a custom kids bed costs in Dubai
These are the ranges we quote for standard Dubai builds, with materials and installation included.
| Build | Typical price (AED) |
|---|---|
| Platform bed | 3,500 to 6,500 |
| Bunk or mid-sleeper | 5,500 to 9,500 |
| Loft with storage | 7,500 to 14,000 |
| Trundle add-on | 1,800 to 3,200 |
| Delivery and installation | 350 to 700 |
Three things move the price more than anything else. Baltic birch ply costs roughly 20 to 30 percent more than MDF, but it holds screws and survives a move. Soft-close hinges and drawer runners add AED 300 to 700 across a bed. A spray finish in any RAL colour adds about AED 800 to 1,500 over standard laminate edging, and it wipes clean far more easily in a child's room.

Child safety spec we build to
Safety here is engineering, not a label. Every bed follows the same spec.
Edges, rails and fixings
Exposed edges get a 2mm radius, sanded and sealed. Guard rails sit at least 260mm above the mattress top and run the full length of the open side. Any frame with a deck at 90cm or higher gets anti-tip brackets fixed into masonry or a stud, never into plasterboard alone.
Openings and gaps
We avoid any opening between 7mm and 12mm, the range where small fingers and limbs jam. The gap between mattress and rail stays under 25mm and the mattress must sit flush to the frame, so confirm the mattress before the build rather than after.
Boards, glues and air quality
We use E1 low-VOC boards and water-based adhesives. A child sleeps 30cm from a panel, and Dubai summers keep windows shut with the AC running for months, so ventilation alone will not clear a cheap board.
Dubai humidity and finish
Humidity in August sits above 70 percent, which is hard on particle board and unsealed edges. We band every cut edge in ABS or PVC and switch to moisture-resistant ply where a bed backs onto an exterior wall or a bathroom. Sprayed PU finishes need five to seven days to cure before a child sleeps on the frame, so the bed is installed last in the room.
Sizing for Dubai rooms
A typical Dubai apartment kids room is about 3m by 3.5m. Villa kids rooms in Palm Jumeirah and the larger JVC townhouses run closer to 3.5m by 4m, sometimes with 3m ceilings instead of 2.7m.
A standard single mattress is 90x190cm and bunk decks take the same size. Add 5 to 8cm on each side for the frame, so a bunk footprint is roughly 1m by 2m plus a 60cm ladder projection.
Leave 70cm of clear floor beside the longest side for changing sheets, and 90cm in front of a wardrobe or desk. Keep 60cm clear of a window so the curtain track and opener still work. Split AC units need 15cm above and 30cm in front, which rules out a 160cm loft deck directly under a wall unit. At a 2.7m ceiling a 160cm deck leaves 1.1m of headroom, fine for a child and tight for an adult leaning in.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a custom kids bed cost in Dubai?
A platform bed with drawers starts around AED 3,500, and a loft with storage can reach AED 14,000. Bunk and mid-sleeper builds usually land between AED 5,500 and AED 9,500, with delivery and installation adding AED 350 to 700. Board type, storage volume and finish are what move the number.
How long does a custom kids bed take to build in Dubai?
Allow three to five weeks from the measure to the installed bed, with the workshop build taking two to four weeks. Installation itself is a single day in almost every case. If you are working towards a birthday, book the measure at least five weeks ahead.
Will a custom bed fit a small Dubai apartment kids room?
Yes. Most Dubai apartment kids rooms are close to 3m by 3.5m, which comfortably takes a 90x190cm platform, a desk and a wardrobe. Where the wall run is short we build storage into the height instead of the floor area. Send your dimensions with the enquiry and we will confirm what fits before the visit.
Is a bunk or loft bed safe for a 4-year-old?
For a four-year-old we normally recommend a platform bed or a low mid-sleeper rather than a top bunk. Most top bunk guidance, including European standard EN 747, points to age six and up. Whichever you choose, rails, rounded edges and anti-tip brackets are part of the build, not an extra.
Can you match a bed to our existing wardrobe finish?
Yes. Send a photo of the wardrobe plus any colour code you have, or hand over a laminate and paint sample. We match sheen and grain direction as well as colour, because a flat white cabinet beside a gloss white bed reads as a mismatch every time. Touching up on site is part of handover.
